Why Do I Bother

Ok get ready for a rant. I bought mamma mia matinee tickets so I could take mum up to the west end and have a fun day out. We got good tickets and I made sure we went and had some lunch before we went into the show. All in all I think I planned it very well and even the weather played along.

I do not think we were twenty minutes into the show when she said “it wasn’t like that on TV”. It took me a while to realize she meant on DVD. So the live stage show was not like the hollywood version. I was waiting for her to say that she couldn’t see Pierce Brosnan or Merryl Streep on stage.

I did not count but I heard something very similar at least three more times. I am not sure why she expected the west end show to be the same as the movie she watched on her TV but she did. I never thought mum would drive me crazy, but I think she has done it today.

I am going to open a bottle of wine and get drunk.

If you are passionate in getting an acting career, it is best meet a teacher that will help you hone your craft such as Hollywood acting coach that has the experience of mentoring A-list Hollywood celebs. There are tips on the qualities that you should be looking on acting workshops. First is to get a legitimate coach that has experience and passion for acting. He/She should have at least formal degree from a highly-regarded acting institution that can provide a systematic training outline. Second is that acting coach should not be teachers. To translate, a coach should successfully extract an innate acting talent in you. Teachers are more theoretical and focus on technicalities rather than practical mentoring.. A legit coach must not make any false assurances yet delivers. Testimonials from past students are a big factor in getting a bonafide coach. More so, watching a previous student’s acting performance will give you a hint on what you will learn from their coach.

In my acting classes for kids I teach a number of techniques that can help kids deliver much better performances. With this in mind, it is a good idea for parents to study along side their kids so they and support them in these techniques.

Choices are the way an actor can self-direct. An actor’s choices can make or break a performance. Choices are the way we can communicate with the director and writer. Rather than focusing on line readings and pantomiming choices are the more organic way to steer a performance. If the last take was too bubbly and that is the correction from the director I will translate that negative result oriented direction into let’s up the evaluation on her physical pain. That way I stay out of my head and don’t monitor and critique my performance, rather I am busy finding new truth in behavior for my choice in the moment.

Most of the big names in Hollywood have attended acting schools in Los Angeles or in New York at some point in their lives. Some of these celebrities include: Director, producer and screenwriter Quentin Tarantino who attended the James Best Theatre Company in Toluca Lake; Actors Matt Dillon, James Spader, Uma Thurman, and Angelina Jolie who attended The Lee Strasberg Theater & Film Institute; and actors Alec Baldwin, Michelle Pfiefer, and Doris Roberts, who all attended the Beverly Hills Playhouse under Milton Katselas. Other notable actors who also studied acting are Kevin Spacey and Roblin Williams, who both attended Julliard. All of these actors have been working on their craft for years and for all of them, success did not come overnight. Even young Hollywood stars like Miley Cyrus and Selena Gomez have taken acting lessons. While it cannot be discounted that there are still celebrities whose big breaks came at once, acting classes have played a substantial role in the careers of some of the world’s most recognized celebrities.
